Essential oils are some of the most powerful forms of healing. Most of what we need to strengthen and heal our bodies is found in nature. But, more often than not, we look to doctors who prescribe medicines made with chemicals and delivered to us through a lab rather than using our God given “nature” delivered apothecary. There is an essential oil or mix of essential oils to treat/care for just about every ailment you have. How is it that we have come to believe that something that was synthetically made in a lab can be better for us than that which comes to us from Mother Nature? After all, those synthetic prescriptions are chemicals developed to “duplicate” what nature already provides. The pharmaceutical industry is making a killing in profits and we are sicker than ever in our history. It’s a business….big business selling prescriptions and the doctors are trained to prescribe medicines, not plants. Further, plants and natural processes to healing cannot be patented and as there are no profits to be made, except through more prescriptions to be developed and marketed.
I have high cholesterol. I’ve been taking a statin drug for longer than I care to admit. I recently noticed that I seem to be more forgetful than my norm, which when I shared with my doctor, she prescribed changing my medicine to Crestor. I’ve seen those commercials, where the pill being prescribed will lower cholesterol, but cause other health problems, like your leg falling off. So, I wasn’t pleased to change medicines and really wanted off of the statins. So, I did my own research, which I find myself doing so more often. I researched foods that lower cholesterol, foods that encourage cholesterol, herbs, essential oils, and supplements that lower cholesterol and developed my personal plan of attack against high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Here is a brief overview of my 6-8 week plan to lower both my cholesterol and high blood pressure:
Garlic, lemon, apple cider and honey elixir taken first thing every morning. See recipe
Supplements: high dosage, high quality: vitamin C, E, A, B Complex, K2, D3 and enzymes: Proline, L-Lysine, which are taken 3-4 times through-out the day.
I eat oatmeal for breakfast daily. I eat a green protein drink (dark green leafy with small portion of fruit) with powered, wheat grass or spirulina, during mid-morning and early evening are delicious, nutritious and timely. I have a wholesome lunch and dinner avoiding bad fats, eggs, dairy, wheat, flour. I limit meat to 2-4 times per week with a preference for fish and skinless chicken. During this time, I am increasing salmon for the Omega-3 oils.
Exercise 3-4 times per week for a minimum of 30 minutes.
I consume essential oils daily. My favorite essential oils: peppermint, orange, rosemary, basil, lavender, tea tree, and frankincense.
I know the above sounds like a lot of prep, but I have it down to a science and I am ok with going the extra yard for my health. Further, I would rather follow this plan, get my health issues in check naturally and be able to stop the medicine cycle in which I currently find myself. So, I am considering my current medicines as band-aids until my body repairs itself with the help of mother nature that I am providing. Therefore, by mid-December 2016, I expect my lipid panel to be within normal range so that I can enter 2017 without the pills, feeling better and actually more healthy.
Back to essential oils:
There are three ways to consume essential oils:
Apply to skin (use a carrier oil and add a few drops of the essential oil)
Eat them (can be added to beverages or food)
Inhale (can be put in a diffuser/dispenser with water to inhale the vapors)
Quality essential oils are miracle remedies, which have been used for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians referred to essential oils as the oils of the Gods or the nectar of the Gods. There are also hundreds of Biblical references to essential oils.
Essential oils are derived from plants and are considered the life blood of plants where they carry nutrition throughout the plant and export its waste product out. Similarly, essential oils permeate the cell walls of your largest organ, your skin to provide nutrition and remove waste while cleansing the receptor sites of your cells (removing heavy metals and petrochemicals) to restore balance to your body.
Quality essential oils are pure oils, which have not been altered by manufacturers who are interested to increase profits rather than provide the best product for your health. The food and fragrance industries command 96% of the essential oil supply. Make sure you are purchasing your essential oils from reliable sources; oil should be in dark amber bottles to protect against oxidation.
